In her song ‘Najeek’, Bartika Eam Rai expresses her resistance against a lurking feeling of love and affection. She can feel it and she knows it. Yet, she apparently runs away from those emotions that are being built inside her. She wants to feel love, yet she tries hard to assert the futility of it. She doesn’t deny that she loves the wonderful feeling, but she suggests that it won’t last long.
The singer herself had shared her story behind the song. It was December 2015. She was working at a restaurant as a server in New York. There was one guy who was working at the same place. And he liked Bartika. Moreover, he wasn’t hesitant to express that he really liked her. She was already 24, and this boy was just 19. So, she had seen and experienced the world more than he had. She already knew how people in young age fall in to their emotions so quick and how quickly they forget the person they once loved more than anything. And also, because of the age-gap, she would see him as a younger brother, rather than a potential partner. However, the guy was always ready to accept her in his life. And, whenever he had the chance, he always said to her, “your eyes are so pretty”. This could be where the line “मेरा आँखा नै सबैभन्दा राम्रा भएजस्तो बेकम्फुसे गफ नगर न, ए” came from. The line means “do not bluff saying my eyes are the prettiest”.
However, the singer clarified that the song was written after being inspired by that experience but it was not addressed to that guy. Seeing how ready and willing the guy was to express his feelings for her, she realized how people grow older and forget to express, filtering their feelings and emotions. The song is a wonderful expression of how someone tries to escape the possible pain in the future by avoiding the emotions that apparently feel wonderful at present.
